The use of a good ground cover plant can create a pleasant and enjoyable
garden. As well as a way of conserving soil and moisture content.
They can be hardy in dry and draught frequent regions while holding
moisture within their roots. Some possible solutions are;
Thyme: When the soil tends to be dry and in need of coverage.
Thyme is an aromatic plant that can excel in beds, borders and conatainers.
With a slightly woody stem and featuring fragrant leaves and flowers,
it can be used later either fresh or dried for cooking.
Sweet Woodruff: This is a special plant that can easily flourish
in shaded areas. Planting it around trees and shrubs will highlight
the beautiful tiny white flowers that will bloom and add texture and
beauty to your garden bed.
Bishop's Weed: This is for the adventerous gardener. It grows
quickly and covers a large area. Best used in shaded or moderately
shaded slpes or large woodland areas. This plant can reach roughly
a foot tall.
Lamium: This has a silver marked foliage that can brighten
shady corners. The plant can reach between 6 and 8 inches tall and
will sread twice as wide if allowed to thrive.
Mondo Grass: Not actually a grass at all. With slightly scrappy
varigated leaves, that range in shades of green to almost black, will
grow 3 to 24 inches tall. Works well in borders, sidwalks and driveways.
Lambs Ears: They have fuzzy soft leaves and are considered
a perenial. It loves the sun or partial shade. It can grow between
6 and 36 inches tall depending on the variety. Flower stalks have
a tiny white, pink, purple, violet or red bloom. That is produced
in summer. Though for some, the leaves are the real attraction.
With a range of quality ground covers to choose from, you may find
your garden becoming a favourite place to retreat to all year through.
