Spring is around the Corner 1
Gardening with Michael
Spring is the season of new things and their promise of new things
to come. So it's a great time to do a quick garden check on the progress
and condition of things. Some of the things to consider are;
- Feed and Fertilise
- Now is a good time to check on soil quality and start putting
to use the wealth of mulch that was created and stored up over the
colder months of the year.
- Lawn care and nurturing
- For many in Australia the lawn has gone through a time of being
dormant. The colder weather has meant the lawn has not stayed as
green and verdant as we may have liked. So now is a good time to
apply a slow release fertiliser. Raked through to allow that it
doesn't cause any burning of the grass.
- Vegetable
- Now is a time to decide if you want to start growing vegetables.
The usefulness of growing your own fresh vegetables really can't
be over stated. Digging into the warming earth and starting a vegetable
garden is one of the most rewarding aspects of gardening.
- Repotting
- Many plants that have been stable and growing in pots, both indoors
and outside, will suddenly seem to burst at the restraints. We can
blame this on the burst of energy that comes to all plants in Spring.
Now is a great time to repot plants. Sorting out the bulbs and the
runners into new refreshed and larger pots. This will make for more
plants in the end.
- Mulch to do about gardening?
- Spring is that time when mulch can be used to the best effect.
Keeping moisture in the soil while helping to eliminate weeds. Mulch
has many valuable benefits. Be sure to check the gardening entry
on the Website that talks about mulch.
- Water Features
- Through the colder months of the year most water features may
have been neglected. So it's time to clean out the pond or fountain.
Work to weed out any dead or surplus water plants. All the while
looking forward to the enjoyment of the feature in it glory.
