Winter Wonderland
Gardening with Michael

Five fun creative things to do in the garden.
- Rake the leaves and pick up twigs, sticks and bark
- This will help you collect some wonderful compost ingredients.
As for some of the larger bits of wood and bark, they are always
great as kindling in the fireplace.
- Aerate the lawn
- One of the jobs many forget about but is really important for
quality lawn growth come Spring. A lawn that has had a good aerating,
that is the soil has been perforated with holes, will breath and
replenish come Spring and Summer.
- Dig the veggie garden & plant new crops
- A general rule of thumb with gardening is preparation. Planning
for the next Summer crop is done best in late Winter so as to make
sure the soil and the plants are all ready and in place.
- Prune and tidy
- While many trees and shrubs hibernate during Winter giving them
a good hardy pruning won't hurt them and get them ready for Spring
and the new growth that will come in time.
- Cheer yourself with potted colour.
- Visit your local garden supply centre for a range of bright cold
weather resilient flowers. You'll be surprised at what you can use
to brighten up your garden in the coldest of climates.
Happy gardening,
Michael
