Review:
The story of John Bunyin is one that could well be lived out even
today. A man who at first was not set right with God. But as the Spirit
should lead him to a chance encounter with two very Godly women discussing
the Bible, he finds his life completely changed.
As part of his renewed life and purpose, he takes to sharing his faith
with others. At first he does so through open air ministry. Then later
as requested to speak at Churches. Though in time those who value
their positions of authority within the Church, they placed him prison.
This is when and where he pens the wonderful story of The Pilgrims
Progress. We join a sad soul as he Journeys towards the glorious reward
for those who trust in God. We share in both his joys and hardships.
As his choices reflect the way his journey can stay true or go astray
from his goal.
I enjoyed this as it used good solid theology. Was written at a time
when the English language was very poetic in meter and sound. And
proved a very real mirror of the World. Both as it was then and as
it is in this Post Modern World we live in.
If I were to find one failing, it would be the very end. We are introduced
to the person known as Faithful. Who tragically is martyred for his
Faith. We are assured he has gone ahead of Christian the Pilgrim.
To his heavenly rest. My though on this is that I would have enjoyed
it if Faithful was there to meet Christian when he entered into God's
Celestial Kingdom. But perhaps that is just me that sees this as somewhat
a lacking aspect of the books ending.
