The Strange Case of Dr Terry and Mr Chimes

Author: Terry Chimes
Publisher: Crux Publishing UK 2013
ISBN: 978-0-9575245-6-9

Review:
Why does Mr Chimes, the drummer of the famous punk band, The Clash, throw it all away and become Dr Terry, a chiropractor and practising Christian?

Drawn to music he finds himself in the world of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. His story is not one of survival or escape but of responding to the drumbeat of God's call. 'Mankind seeks happiness in created things rather than divine things', he quotes from Thomas Aquinas. Terry Chimes had money, pleasure, fame and some power, none of which brought him lasting happiness. 'Mankind wants wealth, power, honour and pleasure', he quotes Rev Robert Barron. Terry explains: 'What do these four have in common? They are all forms of pride - they are all about 'me, me , me'...Contrast that with trying to make others happy with love, kindness, mercy and charity. Then it's all about you, you, you. That is the path to happiness.'

And that is Terry's path to happiness.

A quick and easy read, this book satisfies the curiosity of fans, entertains the casual reader, yet draws all gently and convincingly to a more challenging look at the value and meaning of our lives. The only criticism I have is that there seems to be gratuitous name dropping!
