Verse Luke 18:17
"Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like
a child will not enter it at all."
It's hard to understand how so many people think of the imagination
as something only for children. They while away hours. Adding numbers.
Working out details. And living in a very bleak and colourless world.
Never realising that God gave us the gift of the Imagination. Not to
be ignored. But to be accepted. And in many cases embraced.
Many wonderful works of art and grace owe their very creation to a beautiful
imagination. Painting, sculptures and musical compositions. All praising
the Lord our God. And giving voice to our praise and worship.
I take time to sit and let my imagination take flight. As it speaks
to me of the beauty and grandeur of God. And the Kingdom yet to come.
Throughout the Bible we read of dramatic descriptions. Of events and
places that have both created the story and the journey we as a world
have travelled. To finally get to where we are now. And in each picture
created in words we find the imagination at work. Highlighting the unique.
Picture framing the most important. And reminding us of the power and
glory that are Gods trade marks in all of Creation.
Just imagine how stark and barren the Bible would be if it were just
a book of sums, figure and calculations. True there are several places
in the Bible seemingly dedicated to such analytical reporting of facts
and history. Perhaps thrown in to amuse those who like such things.
It is the poetry and the very music that reads through the Bible that
we can cling to. For they create in our mind an image of what it must
have been like. How the people lived. And what was most important to
them. W learn through our imagination. Here is a small list of quotes
the refer the the power and beauty of the Imagination.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge."
Albert Einstein
" Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited.
Imagination encircles
the world."
Robert Burton
"Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is
not; a sense of humour to console him for what he is."
Sir Francis Bacon
"The function of the imagination is not to make strange things
settled, so much as to make settled things strange."
G K Chesterton
"Logic will get you from A to B, Imagination will take you everywhere.:
Albert Einstein
"Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But
without it, we go nowhere. "
Carl Sagon
"Imagination rules the world."
Napoleon Bonaparte
The Imagination is a gift, a tool and a source of wonder that we are
blessed to have. And one that helps us in every way to perceive God
in all his majesty and glory.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ,
I pray that I may be as a Child,
Trusting in your love,
Following in your path,
And seeing the world as you would.
Through splendid colours,
With Angelic voices,
And with the imagination,
That connects me to all Creation.
Amen
