"Do our words match our convictions."

MJ Flack

Scripture: John 8:32(NIV)
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

To begin with, we need to come to terms with the plain and simple fact that Jesus is the Truth that will set us free. There is no other name in Heaven or on Earth that has the Power and Majesty to set us free. No other path or way will do this.

With this as the foundation I will look at the structure or parts of this well known and loved verse.

There are two parts. The first implies that we will know the Truth. With confidence and assurance. We will have more then a passing knowledge or understanding of this Truth. It will become a strength and a force of confidence for us. Unlike many things we take for granted. Only to learn later that what we thought was certain was in fact a fabrication. This Truth will stay with us. And will not falter or wane. As it is a personal knowledge of Jesus himself. A knowledge that becomes for us a deep and personal relationship.

The second part explores what in fact Jesus can and will do for us. It is not a partial comment based in some philosophical abstract concept. It's a solid statement that we can stake claim to. One that tells us that through accepting Jesus as the Christ and the propitiation of our sins; we can lay claim to salvation, and a new freedom. This does not imply that we can then go on doing the things that separated us from God in the first place.

Romans 6:1(NIV)
"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?"
"By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"

Of course not. We are made new through our knowledge of who Jesus is, and by his Grace we are saved. It is through our knowledge of this that gives us strength and sets us free from the bondage of sin and the judgement that belongs to all that continue to sin. It is this Truth that is Jesus that sets us free.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I am truly a Sinner.
Worthy of Gods judgement and righteous wrath.
That is set for unrepentant Sinners.
I acknowledge your Sovereign Holy Name.
And repent and turn from my sinful past.
Fill me with your Holy Spirit dear Lord.
Lead me in the Paths of your Righteousness.
To my promised rest in Heaven above
Through the saving Grace of your precious Love.

Amen
